Celebrating Failure

This semester, I failed at passing financial accounting.  I had to drop this class which was pretty disappointing because I thought I was doing well in it and understood everything.  What I have learned for the future is that I actually need to attend or watch lectures for this class to pass it.  This is something that I have never attempted for a class here, and until now I have been able to maintain A's and B's without every having to attend lectures.  I realize now that from now on I need to actually go to class for the harder classes for my major, and I will no longer live the life of a bum and will become a productive hard working individual.

  1. Wow. Sorry about that class. But this story is a great example of how failure is a better teacher than success. If something keeps working you will keep doing it, even if it can lead to poor results. This seems to have happened to you when you fell into a pattern that had so far given you great results. Sometimes it can take just one failure after a long string of successes to point out that something is wrong.

  2. Hey Zack,

I actually fell into the same downfall as you; I didn't watch as many stat lectures as I should have and I got some pretty disappointing scores on my exams. However, I decided to pull through with the class instead of dropping it. It was a hard decision, but I decided I would never forgive myself if I dropped statistics without giving it my full attention. So, these next few weeks I plan to study my butt off in order to get a good grade on my final.

In any case, I know what you're feeling. It's disappointment at yourself mainly, and we are our own worst critics. However, I really think that it's times like these that we learn our lessons and our true potential.

Sometimes, we have to go low before we can rise higher than before.

I wish you the best, and I know that you can succeed!

  3. Dude sorry about that class, I heard UF made the class extremely difficult to pass, and so most people have said take it as a transient student at another university, I wish you the best when you retake it. Just remember to pick yourself up, get back on that horse, and kick that class in the ass. I do understand the feeling, I was extremely sad when I was failing Macro last year, and now am retaking it this Spring, I'm glad I learnt from it because I recognized a lot of the material I saw on the Exams & Quizzes from prior experience.
